Friday Meal Question

You guys sick of me yet?
Is fish on Friday required or tradition?

    During the Lenten season, no meat on Fridays. Fish is okay as an alternative--nothing that I have ever heard has fish as a requirement *or* a tradition, but something folks prefer if they can't have meat. Pre-Vatican II it was every Friday of the year but now it is only during Lent.

      Actually, the Church still holds that all Catholics fast and abstain on Fridays throughout the year, with few exceptions. The belief that fasting and abstinence, doing penance on Fridays, was thrown out by Vatican II, is just another of many misinterpretations and perversions of the Council.

        Didn't realize that, thanks G! I'm sort of a casual Catholic, not very well versed in Vatican law or the nitty gritties. Looks like I've got some catching up to do from my catechism days...
