A Party?

topic posted Fri, March 23, 2007 - 7:53 AM by  Teresa
So, hubby is going to be confirmed April 15th (he is so excited) and a few people we know are going to be at the Church. One couple is coming from out of town (not far out but making the trip for him) and then there are his sponsers... so what is the tradition for after an RCIA confirmation? Should we have a little gathering at our house after?

Is it also tradition to give your sponser a gift?

Thanks.

A gathering is great. We Catholics find every excuse to party! ha ha ha. Giving the sponsor a gift is a good idea too. Isn't the church sponsoring a gathering afterwards? My old parish does that, I'm not even sure what my new parish does. Even so, having a group at your home to welcome the newbie Catholic into your home is a wonderful idea. Maybe you all could share a bit about what his confirmation means to you, and how it has enhanced your faith.

Me and my pals all went to an all night diner afterwards... 3 of us were baptized and we brought our 2 sponsors along, but we were baptized at Easter Vigil, so we were all wide awake anyway.. hence the all night diner.

I think you should totally have a party.. there's nothing like being around a bunch of people who are excited about their faith.. I think it's cool! My sponsor bought me all sorts of goodies.. but he had this thing where he treated us all like kids. My sponsor was always saying how it was our night... I even tried to buy him dinner afterwards but he didn't accept.

I think we will have some people over, not a big thing, hubby is actually really reluctant but I think the event should be marked by something.

Yes, it should be marked. It doesn't have to be fancy, but some sort of celebration. This is a joyous occasion! The idea of people talking about their own experiences is a good one; his confirmation can also serve to remind others of their own commitment to the faith.
