The following may be off topic. You can decide.
A friend took me to a service at a church that is out of town. It is what is called a Latin rite church.
I'm not sure; I think they aren't in communion with Rome.
Anyway, it seemed as an eye opener for me. I thought that I was conservative by going to Mass at the Cathedral, and by trying to live as a Catholic.
The Latin rite people seem more strict than does the Cathedral. The Latin rite church requires lady like dress and denounces sodomites in their literature.
The people of the Latin rite seemed so beautiful in their modesty. Children seemed extremely numerous.
Leaving, I felt like a complete space and time traveler. I haven't felt more worldly or modern after that.

Re: Pope Pius X Society
Wed, January 10, 2007 - 7:47 PMIf this church is with the Pius X Society, then they are condemned by the church, because they simply do not believe in the authority of Rome and the validity of recent church councils. -

Re: Pope Pius X Society
Wed, January 10, 2007 - 8:57 PMYes, the church to which I went are basically not in communion with Rome, I guess. I read the following after I went to their service.
[clip]
The SSPX (Society of Saint Pius X) was established under Catholic canon law in the provisional form of a pia unio. This status was withdrawn in 1975, since which time the society has existed in a state of dispute with the Holy See. In 1988, Archbishop Lefebvre consecrated four SSPX priests as bishops in violation of the orders of Pope John Paul II. The Holy See described this step as a "schismatic act" and stated that Lefebvre and the four bishops had incurred excommunication
see the rest of that citation on Society of Saint Pius X at Wikipedia.org linked following

One of my companions who went with me to the service of SSPX queried the priest who said the service as to their connection to our local Roman Catholic Archdioscese. The priest denied any connection. It was confusing because on the outside of their church was posted "Roman Catholic."
I wonder if Mel Gibson has some connection to that group.
A Catholic congregation needs an order from the officials of the Roman Catholic Church to say a Mass in Latin, I guess..
