I had my Welcoming Rite along with another girl yesterday. It was a very emotional event and based on the comments from the congregation it was very meaningful for them as well. I think ceremonies like this lights the fire for God in many who may have become lukewarm about their Catholicism.

Wed, January 16, 2008 - 9:15 AMThat sounds truly beautiful, and I'm so happy you had that experience. I'm not sure what a welcoming rite is; I don't know that we've ever done that at our parish. -

Re: Welcoming Rite
Thu, January 17, 2008 - 10:24 AMWe did another one on Tursday night, for two others joining, husbands of Catholics actually!
Father says some prayer, he makes the sign of the cross on the forehead, then the sponser does the same, more prayers, then the sponser makes the sign of the cross on the eyes, ears, mouth, shoulders, hands and feet.
It was great that I had my ceremony in the Church but it would have been more comfortable in the confines of the RCIA group - so I do have to say I was little jealous that they didn't have to do it in the church. -
