The lady and I go to RCIA as we have for the past seven Wednesdays, and I go as a sponsor. I got the _Sponsor Book_ last week, and I have learned that I represent the church, and the Catechumen person has to have faith in Jesus prior to baptism.

Re: RCIA Sponsor's Journey
Sat, July 14, 2007 - 7:50 PMI normally loathe acronym flingers, and so I add RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. RCIA is initiation for people who wish to know about Catholicism with the intent of joining the Catholic Church. -

Re: RCIA Sponsor's Journey
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 9:02 AMThe RCIA program is stalled in the water at my church.
The pastoral counselor that ran the program has been ill but a Sister will be joining us in September to take over the job.... I am so excited because I have been baptized and attending church and Catholic Formation for three months (seems like forever). I am already an active member of the church and if there is any way that I can make my Statement of Faith so I can take communion before next Easter, I am going to find it. -

Re: RCIA Sponsor's Journey
Sat, September 15, 2007 - 7:20 PMI coordinated RCIA at my old parish only a few years after joining the Catholic Faith and being a sponsor myself.
It was an honor to be a sponsor for someone, it helps your faith to grow more. But when I went on to coordiante the program I was humbled. They sent me for training and all.
But at my new parish I cannot commit to the night they have it to help. I miss it.

Re: Acceptance
Mon, September 17, 2007 - 9:33 AMWe finally have a lovely Sister that has moved to out Parish and taken over the RCIA program. In her first couple of weeks I was the only candidate but that has changed already and our welcoming ceremony will be in October.
I am so ready to make my Profession of Faith but they going to hold me back until Easter, which I hear will make it more special.

Re: RCIA Sponsor's Journey
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 9:40 AMMy sponsee made her acceptance in a beautiful ceremony at the Cathedral.
I understand that the designation of Catachumen indicates and order in the Church.
It is a great step.

After Rite of Acceptance
Fri, October 12, 2007 - 7:50 PMWe go to catechism classes weekly and attend Church on a different day of the week.
Since I am sponsor, I learn a great deal as a consequence of going to class.
I feel that I took a bad detour when I didn't think about the Church.
Additionally, I now find solace in the Mass, and I intend to continue with observance.
My faith deepens.
Maybe my faith had something to do with my sponsee's decision to go through the Rite of Acceptance.
Of course, it is all part of a work of God that I little understand.
